Tree Line

Introducing a brand new painting for 2022. This is the line of trees I look at every single day while painting high above Paonia, Colorado in my home on a mesa overlooking the North Fork Valley. Normally, there are cows grazing in the field (see “Tres Damas”), but in the winter, they are taken down to the valley floor to graze in warmer temperatures. I started out painting a full landscape with the mountains visible in the background, but over the course of the painting, a snow storm blew in. The mountains were obscured by white paint in my studio, just as they were in nature. You can still see a fine outline of them – look closely!

I’ve included several photos of this painting’s process here for you, because the process is always as interesting as the final product. Make note of the shining, metallic gold paint I used for the field and the jewel tones and texture in the treetops. Also note that in different types of lighting, the white changes tone. It is a mix of blue and creamy white with blue undertones. Please ask for photos in different lighting (outdoor, morning, evening, etc.) if you want a clearer picture in your mind of the painting’s colors.

The painting is acrylic on a wooden gesso board with a .75″ cradle. It is 18” x 24”, finished on the sides, wired in the back and ready to hang (no framing necessary). Please view all the photos to see its detail. There’s a nice texture on its surface from the many layers of paint on the board’s surface.

Don’t hesitate to ask if you have questions about this piece, would like more photos, and so on. It’s best to send inquiries to
